To The Trump Supporters

16 Nov

Thoughtful piece from HandbasketAirlines.Wordpress.com… A discussion of some of the things a Trump presidency (and the loss of meaningful checks and balances, with GOP control, for at least the next two years possibly for much longer, considering the status of the US Supreme Court) may entail, why we are scared, and what his candidacy has already done to many of us, our kids, our communities… Perhaps, if you are someone who supported Trump, you would like to add to the conversation and understanding by adding your rationale to the discussion (below, in the comments section). If you are a person who has already felt the impact, or has other concerns and fears, please share as well.

OK, so a lot of my Republican friends on Facebook are posting about how liberals need to stop whining now that the election is over.  They can’t understand why we’re doing all this moaning and wailing when they had to go through the same thing eight years ago.  I’m not an expert, just a regular person, but I’ll try to break it down.

I remember watching the debates during the elections of 2000 and 2004.  In each one, you had a Democrat with plans to solve problems.  This is the problem, and here’s how we fix it.  On the other side you had George W. (with respect and adoration for W.H. Auden and his Funeral Blues)

Stop all the clocks  Reverse all progress.
Forget our equality, this is a big fucking mess.
Silence all reason and show off your guns
Bring out our coffins, this air burns our lungs.

Let the victors gloat over our dead
Scribble on twitter “we jacked off big pharma who jacked up their meds”.
Ship away all of our friends who are brown
Let the unchecked police force shoot the rest down

She was my North, my South, my East, my West
Every day of my life, survival, advocacy, work and rare rest
Our health, our water, our families, and access to school.
I thought our liberty would last for ever, but someone shit in the pool.

We are not wanted now by those who have won
Pack up your dreams if you are not a straight, able, white, Christian son.
Pour away our meds and sweep up our bones
For they only care about money, exclusion, and gold plated thrones.
