Art + Autism = Artasm? Beyond Puzzle Pieces

3 Oct

This is definitely one of those events that makes me wish that I was back on my feet physically and financially so I could truck kid and me up to NYC.

ARS SPECTRA is four days of exploring “The Artistic Autistic”. Each day features art, discussions, workshops exploring four different “spectra” – visual, spiritual, performance, and advocacy.

Of course, all four areas are near and dear to my heart, as an adult with autism(Asperger’s), raising a child with autism (also Asperger’s) and as an artist.  I may not be a performer (I am more of a behind the scenes sort of a gal) but I do think many of us navigating the world of the neurotypical (or more neurotypical friendly than autism friendly/aware) are, in some ways, always on stage, always trying to remember our lines, always trying to be open to those little moments of magic where we are either able to be ourselves and use our improv skills or we have mastered the script enough to be accepted and are allowed the respect and space to show our true selves.

So cool.

Anyway, click here for more information, schedule, and tickets.

p.s.  The photo is not a part of ARS Spectra.  I just put it in this post because I don’t like posting without a photo.  It is by an artist with autism (me).
