We have….

LEMON! That’s right, we have a lemon. It’s a small lemon. It’s a BABY lemon. This is the first bud we have had after two rounds of manual pollination (sure everyone thought I was nuts pollinating the flowers by hand but LOOK!) that hasn’t just dropped off the plant the second we noticed it!

I am completely aware that it is green, and looks lime-ish (limey?). When we got Lemon (Alex named him after great deliberation) at the local Mango Festival no less than 4 people asked us where we got our mini-tree (with his 3 lemons, at the time, that’s how they get you…) and I proudly announced “We got our Meyer Lemon tree at the both near the haunted truck house thing”…They all countered with “Are lemons supposed to be green? Aren’t limes green?”

Doubters.

We took our as yet unnamed tree home and harvested a “fruit” (as then I was starting to doubt it)…Sliced it open and yay! Indeed it’s a meyer lemon!

For the record, none of his fruit has ever turned yellow, but these are the best lemons in the world.

Anyway, I’m hoping this little guy holds on so we can have a glass of slightly lemony water (looks like we will only be having the one lemon, so no lemonade yet, I’m not breaking the news to boy just yet as he has a rather large plan for his lemonade production…Think Stewie from family guy elaborate- but sweet, not British, and with lemonade not matricide…)….

And all of you though I was being silly dragging it in and out every night for weeks! Pfffft.

I’ve got a LEMON!

Windows…

No, not Vista… I’m talking about outdoor windows…

The sliding glass door has been my nemesis for quite some time…

When we moved in getting that thing clean was an epic adventure.

So, this time I brought in the big blue genie…

Dawn.

“Basic” Dawn Dishwashing Detergent does a whole load of stuff….

I use it as the burnishing fluid in my tumbler…. I used it to scrub (with a softish but still slightly rigid brush) my big glass door before squeegeeing… And I have to confess, a squirt of blue Dawn down the commode every once in a while really helps to keep things moving (and get things moving…if the um offending stoppage isn’t just paper…Hey, *%it happens. Also, I no longer even bother with stain remover on any greasy spots (even dairy leaves little greasy kisses on clothes)- as most of my clothes are cotton these days (good ol’ casual Florida!)…I put a dab of Dawn on the top and underside of the stain (to really kick it’s greasy arse) and throw it in the wash… Sure I love my “all natural” old school detergents and soaps, but Dawn is a great little weapon (and the small bottle lasts us around 6 months…and oddly enough, I tested some of the things I do with Dr. Bronner’s and some of the more natural/branded/marketed stuff from Ada’s Market and Dawn came out ahead…But for a quick cleaning of a mirror and everyday home maintenance I find that vinegar and water and baking soda work wonders….

I’m glad to see I’m not the only loony using dawn on windows- there was a gentleman on the today show with the dishwashing liquid suggestion as well. He had a nifty giant sponge though…Have to get me one of those…

OK. So this photo doesn’t really *have* to be in black and white… The stools are in “Pigeon” (dark gray) and the Bubble Club chair is in Light Gray… I decided to make our Lanai more like an outdoor living room because with just a little dining table and chairs nobody was using it and I’ve finally admitted to myself (and my family) that the kitchen table will always be my work table (it’s indestructible and a little industrial but still curvy and a little antique-y looking. Um. Kind of like me these days?)…

Anyway, I still have a love of color, but my lust for color and patterns changes frequently, so the furniture on the lanai is like a blank canvas. Splashes of color will be added shortly for optimal punch and versatility.

Please excuse me, I do have to go back to sitting on my lanai (what we call a screened-in-porch here in Florida) and sipping my tea while enjoying a rambunctious game of hi-ho-cherrio with boyo and baldguy….

I’ll keep updating…

Oh and for out-of-this-world service please visit Circa50 (they carry the Bubble Club series and the Prince Aha stools…there service and expertise is unparalleled)
